TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metro Police detained Arseto Suryoadji (38) for allegedly spreading hate speech through a viral video that is considered to defame President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
The police conducted a search at Arseto’s house in one of North Jakarta’s high-end residential area, Kelapa Gading, and at his Mercedes Benz C230. “During the search, we found an airsoft gun in his Mercedes Benz C230,” said Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Argo Yuwono.
The arrest against Arseto was conducted by Jakarta Metro Police’s cybercrime unit which also involved police’s cyber and narcotics directorate for an alleged narcotics ownership.
According to Argo, Arseto is a former convict for a narcotics case back in 2008 and was sentenced to a 10-year jail time.
Two days prior, a group named Jokowi Mania (Joman) filed a police report against Arseto Suryoadji after he allegedly uploaded a video that insulted the president on two social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram.
The viral video suggests that Jokowi supporters traded the wedding invitation of the president’s daughter for Rp25 million and claims that the president and his supporters are equally corrupt.
