TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coto is not the only typical food of Makassar. If you travel or visiting a typical restaurant of Sulawesi, do not miss to taste a plate of Mi titi (titi noodles).

Mi titi is a dry noodle. The noodle which is used to make mi titi is generally a yellow noodle with a very small diameter. At first glance, its appearance is no different from the pasty spicy noodle.

In Makassar, mi titi can be found in Tamanlarea area. As in Jakarta, the culinary which is adapted from the Oriental-style cooking is quite difficult to find, even in a typical restaurant of Sulawesi.

On Thursday, March 22, Tempo visited Sulawesi@Menteng restaurant with a group of journalists. It provides Makassar cuisine menus. Interestingly there is a mi titi menu, which became the flagship menu.

When served, mi titi looks similar to a bird’s nest, served like ifumi, a typical Chinese dry noodle.

"Mi titi is eaten with sauce," said Diah Ayu, public relations Sulawesi@Menteng, when met at the restaurant, Jl. Sumenep, Central Jakarta.

Mi titi sauce in the form of black mushroom soup complete with fish balls, chicory, squid, and shrimp. The sauce is made from processed sago mixed with cornstarch. Sago and cornstarch make the sauce become thick.

When mi titi is mixed with soup, the dry texture turns soft. But in some parts that are not doused with the sauce, it still remains crispy.

Actually, there are two ways to eat mi titi, which is directly mixed with sauce or eaten separately. Both provide a different experience. If you like the crunchy texture, try the second way.

Mi titi does not need to eat with rice. Therefore, the material is made from flour and the sauce is processed from sago, it will be felt instantly in the stomach.

The price of a plate of mi titi at this restaurant is Rp48,000. One menu is enough to eat by 3 to 4 people.
