Bekasi Mayor Candidate Asks Rizieq Shihab Support for Election

TEMPO.CO, Bekasi - Bekasi Mayor Candidate Nur Supriyanto met the leader of Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Rizieq Shihab in Saudi Arabia to ask for his support in running the 2018 Regional Election (Pilkada).
"I met him directly when I was performing Umroh on March 5-6, and he relied upon the voice of Muslims in Bekasi to us (Nur Supriyanto-Adhy Firdaus)," said Nur in Bekasi on Monday, March 26.
Nur stated Rizieq Shihab suggested him to bring Islam as a religion that teaches kindness to all people. "Habib Rizieq mandated me to sincerely seek for Allah's blessings, and defend Islam and Muslims in Bekasi City, also show that Islam is rahmatan lil alamin which protect and secure everyone," said Nur.
The message was recorded by Nur Supriyanto's team which then uploaded on Youtube. Nur admitted to not know that his supporters in Bekasi City spread the one-minute video of Rizieq Shihab and portrayed it into a banner campaign.
The 4x6 square meter banner was displayed in some areas of Bekasi City presenting Nur and Rizieq shaking hands. The banner then became viral amid the controversial figure of Rizieq Shihab. Nur claimed to not worry about citizen’s judgment that against the FPI leader who currently facing the legal problem.
According to him, the appearance of Rizieq's image in Bekasi City should be viewed neutrally as a form of support. "It (the banner) is just like the other candidates who feature pictures of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Agus Yudhoyono, or other figures," Nur argued.
Nur Supriyanto expressed his optimism in getting the 212 alumni brotherhood support to run the 2018 Regional Election as Bekasi Mayor candidate. “Rizieq Shihab is FPI leader, and all FPI members are the alumni of 212,” he added.
