TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Arrmanatha Nasir announced that the two Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel who were detained by Malaysian authorities for illegally entering the country have been freed.
“Both the Indonesian consulate general and the Malaysian government have a great relationship and trust each other,” said Nasir today, March 27.
Nasir explained that the diplomatic process was conducted by the Indonesian consulate general and a liaison officer from the Indonesian National Police as a negotiator. The negotiation was not met with any obstacles, he said.
“Our soldiers were freed and all the charges were dropped,” said Nasir.
Previously, the Royal Malaysian Police detained Lance Corporal M. Rizal and Master Private Subur Arianto while they were tasked to monitor a suspected smuggling route. Both men were arrested at the portal gate of a Malaysian palm oil field.
“Both TNI personnel mistakenly walked two kilometers into the area,” said Nasir.
