TEMPO.CO, Mataram - State-owned Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) Mataram branch planned to install a security tool dubbed Deep Skimming as to prevent break-ins in customers’ savings account through the Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

BRI Mataram branch chairman stated there were at least 82 of 118 ATM booths in Mataram will be installed with Deep Skimming equipment.

“We will install the tools to anticipate data theft in customers’ account through ATM. We have prepared it for 82 ATM booths in North Lombok district, West Lombok, and Mataram city,” said Harsono when met at Mataram, Nusa Tenggara Barat, on Thursday, March 22.

According to Harsono, one of the places which likely possible to fall into skimming scam was in North Lombok district, particularly in Gili Islands (3 Gili) area. The location had less provision and security of the police so that easily became the target of skimming.

In addition to Deep Skimming equipment, Harsono called on people to keep their own data in private including the PIN, CCV (Card Verification Value) or three-digit number on the back of the card, and OTP (one-time password). “Do not ever give personal data to anyone because it is possible to be used for a break-in,” he said.

As previously reported, dozens of BRI clients in Kediri, East Java fell victim into mass-theft allegedly using skimming method. They claimed to have the balance in their saving accounts decreased mysteriously by Rp500,000 to Rp1 million.
