Cicaheum Flash flood in Bandung city is allegedly due to land conversion in the area of North Bandung.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A flash flood triggered by non stop heavy rain hit Cicaheum area in Bandung City, West Java Province, on Tuesday. March was forecast to be the peak of rainy season in Bandung, Toni Agus Wijaya, head of the Bandung climatology, meteorology and geophysics office, said on Wednesday.

The precipitation in North Bandung area reached 45 milometers as cumulonimbus cloud developed, according to a weather monitoring by a rain observation post in Lembang, West Java.

Besides, there was a sea surface temperature anomaly in West Java waters, causing clouds to develop as the sea waters became warm.

The rainy season will last until May in West Java, he added.

Meanwhile, floods had hit 11 villages and affected some 7,000 homes in Gunung Jati sub-district, Cirebon district, also in West Java Province.

The flood waters had reached a height of up to 60 cm, Eman Sulaeman of the Cirebon disaster mitigation office, said.

The floods triggered by incessant rains caused several rivers to spill over their banks, he said.

In addition to Gunung Jati sub-district, floods had also submerged thousands of homes in the sub-districts of Susukan and Ciwaringin, he noted.
