TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police have urged the Financial Transaction Report and Analysis Center (PPATK) to help trace the flow of funds to the bank account of a hacker group, Surabaya Black Hat.

A spokesman of the Indonesian Police Inspector General Pol. Setyo Wasisto stated on Tuesday that based on the result of an analysis conducted by the PPATK, the police will trace the possible involvement of other parties in the case.

"The investigating team has sent a letter to the PPATK to officially monitor the bank account. After we have the report on the analysis, the investigators will track down who has been involved and recheck the information," he noted.

Wasisto pointed out that hackers work independently without any orders, and the act would lead to blackmailing the victims.

Earlier last week, the Jakarta police had arrested three suspects, with their initials as KPS, NA, and ATP, all being 21 years of age, based on information from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The group had allegedly hacked hundreds of websites in 44 countries.

The three suspects are students of Informatics System of the Surabaya Institute of Business and Informatics.

The police suspected that the cybercriminal gang had some 600 to 700 members spread across Indonesia.

The hackers will be charged under the Electronic Information and Transactions Law, which carries a maximum sentence of 12 years' imprisonment.
