TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Secretary General of the House Damayanti said there was no fire on the fourth floor of Nusantara III Building, Parliament (DPR) Complex, Senayan. According to her, what actually happened was the malfunction of an automatic fire system.

"There was no fire, the malfunction of APAR (a light fire extinguisher) in the form of aerosols that suddenly turned on without a fire," she said via text message on Monday, March 19.

Meanwhile, Deputy Administration of the Secretariat General of the House, Mardian Umar, said the malfunction came from the Firepro, a newly installed fire prevention system about three months ago.

"This is a result of the new highly sensitive fire-extinguishing system, which proves to work well because a new outbreak has erupted causing smoke on the fourth floor in Fahri Hamzah's office," he said when met at the site.

Mardian said no documents were damaged by the incident. "So there was no fire," he said.

Meanwhile, Sector Head of Kemayoran, Central Jakarta Fire Brigade, Unggul Wibowo explained that the fire extinguisher works like a sprinkler. If the sprinkler splashes water, it splashes the aerosol powder to extinguish the flame.

The amount of the powder, said Superior, which makes it look like a cloud of smoke. "Maybe because it's hot, just like a sprinkler if there is a heat, it sprays itself," he said.

At the beginning of the incident, Unggul said the officers had trouble finding the source of fire because of the thick smoke spewed by the sprinkler. Therefore, they used the smoke removal equipment to remove the smoke.
