TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State train manufacturer Industri Kereta Api (PT INKA) will send a series of light rail transit (LRT) trains to Palembang on April 10. It will be tested for trial for three months before being fully operational in August for the Asian Games 2018.
INKA Commercialization Director Agung Sedaju said that the work of the 24 train carriages of Palembang LRT has entered the final stage and is ready to be sent for the trials in the city. "We will send it on April 10, the trials will be held until August; for three months. It must be ready for the Asian Games," said Agung in Madiun, Tuesday, March 13.

Agung explains Palembang LRT slightly different from the automatic Jakarta LRT or grade of automation 3 which does not require a machinist. Palembang LRT will still need a machinist.
"There is no significant difference at the side of the train and the control, only the signal system. If it is not automatic, the train is controlled by a machinist," said Agung.

After completing the LRT for Palembang, PT INKA will focus on the LRT for Jakarta-Bogor-Depok-Bekasi (Jabodebek LRT).
To complete the 31 series of Jabodetabek LRT trains, INKA cooperates with the Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) to ensure the quality of the products in accordance with the available infrastructure.
