TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Bina Marga Agency has started sidewalks construction at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) stadium area, Senayan, ahead of Asian Games 2018. The planning was a top priority concerning the sports event to be held in the next five months.
“We have started the project on the pedestrian lane in GBK, Senayan,” said Jakarta Bina Marga Agency Head Yusmada Faizal in Jakarta, Wednesday, March 14.

Yusmada explained the construction took place at Jalan Tentara Pelajar, Gelora, Gerbang Pemuda, until Palmerah Selatan. “The total length (of the lane) is 4,2 kilometer with various wide at 1,5 to 6 meter. The project indeed our main goal prior to Asian Games in August 2018,” he said.
Apart from Sudirman-Thamrin sidewalk project, the construction at GBK did not require road widening or lane addition. The one lane was 3,5 meter in average length. “We applied lane consistent concept which means we maximized the existing lane, so (the road) will be more organized,” Yusmada stated.

As for the funding, he claimed that it was from regional budget 2018 as many as Rp19,5 billion. “We expected the sidewalk project at GBK will be ready before Asian Games 2018 begins,” he stated.
