TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cyber Crime Task Force Team of Jakarta Police released the arrest of the electronic system hacking syndicate consisting of college students. The team led by Head of Subdirectorate (Kasubdit) Cyber Crime Jakarta Police AKBP Roberto Pasaribu managed to arrest three of the six main suspects in Surabaya, East Java on Sunday, March 11.
"There is a group of Indonesian college students, so they are categorized as children because they are still very young, they attack the electronic system and the website," said Roberto in Jakarta Police Headquarters, Wednesday, March 13.
From the results of the investigation, there were six main suspects. Three suspects arrested with initials NA (21 years old), KPS (21), and ATP (21) are IT major college students, while the three others are still in search.
The mode that the suspects did after hacking the victim's electronic system was to request a large ransom to the victim via electronic mail. The victims can redeem with PayPal or bitcoin. If the victims deny paying, the hacker syndicate will destroy the victim's electronic system.
Police managed to track the number and position of the main suspects in Surabaya through the IP address which was used when hacking the system. The Cyber Crime Task Force then developed the discovery for two months before forcibly attempting to prevent the recurrence of the crime.
Based on the calculations of the Cyber Crime Task Force, there were more than 3000 electronic systems in 40 countries that became the victims of electronic system attacks by the suspects.
The amount, said Roberto, is possible to increase during the investigation.
Head of Public Relations Jakarta Police Commissioner Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono revealed there are 600-700 people who are members of the Surabaya Black Hat (SBH) hacker community. They are involved in the electronic system hacking since 2017.
