TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State electricity company (PLN) Bali distribution area stated to keep supplying electricity to all areas during Nyepi (Day of Silence) on Saturday, March 17, including to hospitals and tap water company PDAM, except for several villages and Islands which demanded a total power outage.
“The power outage won’t take effect only to three villages and three islands which have requested officially, namely Nusa Penida island, Nusa Lembongan island, Nusa Ceningan island, Les village, Penuktukan village, and Tejakula village,” said Bali PLN General Manager I Nyoman Suwarjoni Astawa at Denpasar, March 13.
PLN Bali will also cut the lighting in all over the highway. “We assign 178 personnel if there is an electricity failure,” he said.

During Nyepi, the electricity supply will decrease up to 30 percent. In normal days, the supply reached up to 809 megawatts (MW) at peak, while on the silence day, it is expected to be only 506 MW.
To meet the demand during Nyepi, PLN Bali will keep operating PLTU Celukan Bawang and the power supply from Java through submarine cable but Pesanggaran power plant will be shut down.
However, despite the temporary blackout Suwarjoni explained, PLN authorized 178 personnel; 65 personnel in South Bali service area, 51 personnel in East Bali, 55 personnel in North Bali, and seven personnel in the control distribution area.
"We has asked Pecalang (Bali traditional guards) to help our officers if we need to repair the power failures during Nyepi," said Suwarjoni.
