TEMPO.CO, Kediri - Branch Office of State-owned bank PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) Unit Ngadiluwih was crowded by customers on Jalan Raya Ngadiluwih, Kediri, Monday afternoon, March 12. Dozens of customers came to checking their balance as well as blocking the account. "Today, customers came to report missing of funds," said Ngadiluwih Police Chief Adjunct Commissioner Shokib Dimyati while leading the security.

Shokib explained as many as 16 customers reported the money in their accounts diminished mysteriously. It was known when they did a transaction at automated teller machines (ATMs). The average loss ranged from Rp500 thousand to Rp1 million.

The news quickly spread to the public triggered the panic in BRI Unit of Ngadiluwih office. Police secured the branch office and helped to maintain the security. Officers asked customers to prepare their account book and file a written report had they lost money. "But do not try to fabricate the loss," Shokib asserted.

Police guaranteed a replacement from BRI to all customers whose funds are decreased mysteriously. They called on all customers to be more careful when using ATMs from the potential crime of break-ins.

A female client who works as a teacher admitted losing money in her account. She realized the loss when checking balances at ATM. After showing the account book to the bank officer, she was known to had made five consecutive withdrawals.

Of the five withdrawals, only the last withdrawal she acknowledged. "I only take out Rp300 thousand," she said.

The same issue was conveyed by Iriani, the Tales village official, Ngadiluwih sub-district. She claimed to lose Rp4 million in four withdrawals, which she did not know. "I got a sudden notice yesterday from BRI that I withdrew Rp4 million," she said, requesting her account to be blocked at BRI Ngadiluwih office.

Until recent, officer BRI Unit of Ngadiluwih had yet clarified the situation. They claimed to still overwhelm serving flocked customers at the office. Tempo has also not been able to get confirmation from BRI Central official.
