TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan admits that public facilities in Jakarta are unfriendly for people with disabilities (PwDs). He assisted a number of PwDs from Jakarta Barrier Free Tourism (JBFT) on foot from Transjakarta Sarinah Stop to National Library of Indonesia.
The event also coincided with JBFT's 6th anniversary. To walk with a distance of 1.2 kilometers, it takes more 40 minutes to arrive at the destination.
“It is true that we have not provided facilities that allow for the PwDs to be able to freely explore Jakarta,” said Anies Baswedan at the National Library of Indonesia, Jakarta, on Saturday, March 10.

Anies Baswedan admitted, as long as the road that he passed, it was not easy for PwDs. For example, the width of the sidewalk, the high pavement, the disability path which is disturbed by the trees growing on the sidewalk and so on.
He said he would invite the PwDs community to provide input on their needs related to the facility.
"I am committed to them that Sudirman Thamrin's result will be friendly to PwDs, although the draft has been prepared I will invite them to give further input,” said Anies Baswedan.
One of the disabled people who use a wheelchair, Sofi, said that a number of public transportation infrastructure is not adequate.
Sofi pointed out that she still has to be assisted when arriving at Palmerah Station or Tanah Abang Terminal.
“In Palmerah, i have to be lifted, there is one broken elevator. “People with disabilities want to be independent, not to be helped,” said Sofi to Anies Baswedan.
