TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno explained that his office does not want to make hasty decisions in managing the Tanah Abang market area in Central Jakarta.

Sandiaga said that it is mainly the reason why he is reluctant to announce his midterm plans on the Tanah Abang management. Furthermore, he blamed the people commenting on social media for pushing the administration to make a quick decision.

“What we learned from the first phase [of the Tanah Abang management plan] is that we do not want to rush it. We were pressured by all of you, weren’t we,” Sandiaga Uno said to journalists at the Union Space V Office on Friday, March 9.

Sandiaga reasoned that the prolonged Tanah Abang management plan was due to the communication between the Jakarta administration and the Commissioner HalimPagarra, who is Jakarta Metro Police’s traffic director, has yet to take place. They also did not have time to coordinate with the national Ombudsman, pedestrians, and other related instances.

“We didn’t have enough time to introduce [the program]. We were also not able to coordinate with Pak Halim and other related agencies. We did not even have time to disseminate it to pedestrians and Ombudsman,” said the Deputy Governor.

In order to determine and announce Tanah Abang’s midterm management concept, the Jakarta administration plans to coordinate its plan with related agencies on Friday evening, which Sandiaga says is the administration’s first concrete data on Tanah Abang.
