TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Google Indonesia committed to training more than 100 thousand developers in Indonesia before 2020. “This is a challenge for Google,” said Head of Communication Google Indonesia, Jason Tedjasukmana, at Google Indonesia office, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, March 6.
More than 140 million people in Indonesia have access to the internet and the number gradually increase. Indonesia is one of the countries with the largest of internet users in the world.
Jason predicted digital transformation in Indonesia will build up, including the startup business growth which provides mobile solutions. “We’d like to help Indonesia to be one of the largest digital strength countries in the region,” he said.
Google Southeast Asia Developer Relation Program Erica Hanson stated Google has many programs to success the plan, such as “Indonesia Android Kejar".
“It is a nationwide program, to teach Android programming through small workshops in 10 cities. So far, Google has trained 60 thousand people through the program,” said Hanson.
Another program initiated by Google is Google Launchpad Accelerator to attract and encourage the interest of new Indonesian developer, entrepreneurs, and innovator.
Throughout 2017, Hanson claimed, Google experts and mentors have educated 13 thousand local developer trough live workshops and study groups supported by Udacity, online learning facilities.
Google Indonesia also established Developer Student Clubs, a program to build students work skills. “Every club is led by a student leader who appointed by the faculty and has a duty to manage other students in learning mobile development,” said Hanson.
