TEMPO.CO, Palembang - Telecommunication company Telekomunikasi Indonesia International or Telin Timor Leste is currently constructing a submarine communication cable network under the name `Telkomcel`.
The Telkom Group expanded product will provide consistent high-speed internet bandwidth connection for people in cities and also in the rural areas of Timor Leste, which will also improve the communication between both countries.
According to the CEO of Telin represented by Telkomcel CEO Yogi Rizkian Bahar, the company is waiting for the license which will be issued by the Timor Leste government.
“We expect the Timor Leste government will issue the license by this month to expand the internet service and assist the country’s social-economic development,” said Yogi in Palembang on Wednesday, March 7.
Timor Leste government gave Telkomcel a target to establish a telecommunication service based on the 3G-UMTS technology that can reach 85 percent of the population within a year, and 94 percent of the population within three years.
Telkomcel Corporate Communication Hirwandi explained that they have agreed to conduct a telecommunication reform on national and international deep sea fiber optics, however, in reality, Timor Leste is still heavily relying on satellite connection for its internet access which can no longer fulfill the needs of modern telecommunication systems.
