Ministry Says Additional Funding Request for Asian Games Too High

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Youth and Sports Ministry will review the additional fund that the 2018 Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC) and the 2018 Asian Paragames Executive Committee (INAPGOC) proposed to the government. The amount of additional fund requested is deemed too high.
Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi said the review is what President Joko Widodo instructed during a closed meeting at the State Palace on Tuesday, March 6.
"The point is efficiency; and so some of the budget had to be reviewed by our ministry and cannot be submitted today," Imam said in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Imam said that the INASGOC proposed an additional funding of Rp1.1 trillion, while INAPGOC asked for Rp850 billion. As the figures are considered too high Imam said he would try to review it, to see if that number can be lowered.
"Maybe by next week the results of the review will be submitted to the Minister of Finance," said Imam.
Indonesia is still preparing to host the 2018 Asian Games and Asian Paragames.
Imam said President Widodo asserted that—as a host—Indonesia must be able to show provide sophisticated facilities and achievements.
