TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - International Monetary Fund (IMF) Executive Director Juda Agung said digital currency would be one of the topics in the upcoming IMF and World Bank Annual Meeting in Nusa Dua, Bali, October 2018.
"The point is, the IMF still mulls over the positives and negatives of digital currency," he said after accompanying IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde to visit Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC), Friday, March 2.
The West Java Bank Indonesia former chief said digital currency, including cryptocurrency, remained a hot topic in the international financial organization.
Juda said digital currency was born from technology development and would be inevitable in future transactions. Nevertheless, he asserted, the IMF would provide precautions on the risks in the implementation of digital currency.
Digital currency will be one of the main topics in the meeting as IMF and World Bank are mandated to secure monetary stability, financial system, and exchange rate stability.
Juda added economic inequality, which is presently a global phenomenon, was also among the issues in the meeting, which would be attended by around 15 thousand delegates from 189 countries worldwide.
