TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Communication and Informatics Ministry (Kominfo) announced that people do not need to worry about handing private information to their cell phone carriers. This is following a mandatory prepaid SIM card registration by the government.
“Cellphone carriers have done a good job in protecting personal data,” said Ahmad Ramli, Kominfo’s director general for post and informatics management on Wednesday, February 28.
According to Ahmad, cellphone carriers have professionally managed private customer records according to the ISO 27001 standard.

He assured customers that Kominfo has reminded cellphone carriers upon the misuse of personal data and its legal consequences if that is breached.
“There are legal provisions that can sanction a cellphone carrier if they leak customers’ confidential records,” said Ahmad.
The deadline for the mandatory registration period ended yesterday on February 28. The ministry recorded that there were roughly 305 million prepaid SIM owners that have registered their numbers.
Based on the data collected by Kominfo, the number of prepaid SIM card users in Indonesia is 376 million people. This means that there are 71 million prepaid SIM card users that have yet registered their number.
