TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chairman Agus Rahardjo confirmed the news that KPK's law enforcement deputy, Insp. Gen. Heru Winarko will soon be appointed as the new Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN).
“I truly hope that Pak Heru will be appointed. Hopefully, the good news will arrive soon,” said Agus at the KPK headquarter in South Jakarta on Wednesday, February 28. This means that Heru will replace the former BNN Head Gen. Comm. Budi Waseso.
“There has never been a case where a KPK deputy is promoted. We’re obviously very glad for him since it’s a reward for his achievements,” said Agus.
Agus hopes that Heru will be able to maintain the norm and ethical standards he practiced in KPK to BNN. He predicts that Heru’s transfer can bring both agencies to collaborate.
Other candidates that were considered for the position include Criminal Investigation Agency Head Gen. Comm. Ari Dono Sukmanto, Police Chief operational assistant Gen. Muhammad Iriawan, and BNN deputy for eradication Insp. Gen. Arman Depari.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is said to have officially ratified the decision to replace BNN Head Gen. Comm. Budi Waseso who will retire this month in March.
