TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Constitutional law expert Mahfud MD, along with a number of legal experts, met with President Joko Widodo or Jokowi at the State Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, February 28, to discuss the recent laws that are being questioned.
In the discussion, Mahfud MD explained that the President listened to various inputs from the legal experts on the laws on People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), House of Representatives (DPR), Regional Representative Councils (DPRD and DPD) or MD3 Law, as well as the Draft Bill of Criminal Code (RKUHP).
Mahfud said, they also discussed the articles on adultery, as well as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) in the RKUHP.

As related to MD3 Law, Mahfud MD mentions three articles, namely Article 73, 122, and 245.
He previously opposed the MD3 Law. According to Mahfud, the application of the law will create three risks; such as the immunity rights of the council members, the enforcement of the article by the Parliament, and the role of the DPR's Ethics Council (MKD).
"We have conveyed our views and public's opinion. We also said that the President has the constitutional authority to take any measures or decisions and that's his consequence as a president," Mahfud said.
On the other hand, President Jokowi has yet to ratify the MD3 Law. Jokowi reasoned that he is still waiting for the review before deciding to sign the bill.
Nevertheless, the law will automatically take effect after 30 days even though the President has not given his authorization. Jokowi said it is the risk under the law.
