Transport Ministry Releases Rp1.2tn for Labor-intensive Program

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi stated that Transportation Ministry has released Rp1.2 trillion of funds for labor-intensive program and has employed 70 thousand people in the course of 6 months. Budi aims the Ministry can obtain Rp5-6 trillion funds to boost cash labor-intensive programs in 2019.
"I want this program to be built-in, not just embedded, but it is also public works. Well, you know painting aircrafts, performing cleaning services. So those who do not work will work," Budi said in Tangerang on Saturday (24/2).
Budi expressed that this program receives support from the public, especially the unemployed who find in difficult to get employment opportunities. In addition, this program is considered more productive for the society compared to cash assistance scheme (BLT).
"In BLT scheme, they do not work, they earn money for nothing, and it makes them lazy. In this program they work," Budi went on. Budi added that this program offers payment Rp130 thousand per day. "That’s higher than the minimum wage, isn’t it?"
