TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Chairman Din Syamsuddin expressed his concern and skepticism towards the acid attack experienced by Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan.

Din said that the case is so astonishing that it has not been solved yet since the attack took place in April of 2017. He even suspected foul play. “This is definitely a challenge for the Police institution that must be solved,” said Din at the MUI headquarters on Wednesday, February 21.

Head of Police Criminal Investigation Bureau (Bareskrim) General Commissioner Ari Dono Sukmanto explained that the investigation is still ongoing. “An unsolved case does not mean that we’re standing still. The task force is continuously collecting pieces of evidence,” said Ari.

Novel had to seek treatment in Singapore since April 12, 2018, as a result of the acid that was splashed onto Novel Baswedan’s face during the attack. He had also undergone additional surgery for his left eye on Monday last week. He is scheduled to return to Indonesia today on Thursday, February 22.
