Minister Optimistic Indonesia to Be Mobile Phone Production Basis

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto expressed his optimism that Indonesia is able to be production basis to world class telecommunication industry.
“With the growing numbers of assembly industry and component manufacturers, around 30 mobile phone companies and tablets have met domestic content level (TKDN) of 30 percent,” Airlangga said in Jakarta on Saturday (17/2).
Furthermore, he said, it is supported by huge domestic potential market and a number of competitive local component manufacturers.
Based on the ministry’s data, there are 24 manufacture companies of mobile phone components and tablets in Indonesia.
In addition, based on e-Marketer, smartphone active users in Indonesia will grow from 55 million users in 2015 into 100 million in 2018.
With such figures, Indonesia will place fourth in the world’s most active smartphone users after China, India, and the U.S.
