TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government begins the development of Arun Lhokseumawe special economic zone (SEZ). Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution said the government is serious in the development of this area.

The development-start is marked by the signing of an agreement for state property management. The State Asset Management Agency (LMAN) and PT Patriot Nusantara Aceh (PT Patna)—the business entity in charge of developing and managing Arun SEZ—have signed an agreement on the cooperation of operational activities of Arun LNG as the state property.

The Arun SEZ development is aimed at facilitating provinces other than Java to contribute to economic growth.

The total size of Arun SEZ is 2,622.48 hectares, consisting of Arun Refinery Area in Lhokseumawe City; the Dewantara Area in North Aceh Regency; and the Jamuan Area in North Aceh Regency.

Darmin Nasution said that SEZ development in Java is focused on the services sector, while industrial sector is concentrated outside Java.
