Social Media Wil Not Cause Newspaper To Perish, says Minister

TEMPO.CO, Magelang - Communication and Information Minister Rudiantara believed that mainstream media such as newspaper (printed media) and electronic media (radio and television) will not die because of social media.
“People still maintain high level of trust on mainstream media both printed and electronic, so I believe that social media will not cause such media to die,” he said.
He claimed that mainstream media put forward credibility and accuracy rather than speed, while social media prioritizes speed than accuracy.
He explained that Indonesian public’s level of trust to national media is good as it places second after China and the third place is India.
“We try to maintain transparency to the people in how to run social media including websites, how to run the digital world. We have to be transparent since we need to involve all layers of the society,” he went on.
