TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice Presidential Expert Team chief Sofyan Wanandi said President Joko Widodo or Jokowi and Vice President Jusuf Kalla have discussed four candidates for the Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor position. The candidates are the Head of National Development Planning Agency Bambang Brodjonegoro, former Finance Minister Chatib Basri, current BI governor Agus Martowardojo and BI Deputy Governor Perry Warjiyo.
Sofyan added that the President has considered the candidates’ strengths and weaknesses. “But it has not been decided yet,” Sofyan said.

Sofyan explained that the BI Governor succession must be adjusted to the global situations, including the plummeting New York Stock Exchange and the US plan to raise its interest rate.
Sofyan said that the new BI Governor must be able to work with the Finance Minister because the fiscal and monetary policies are very important.
BI Governor Agus Martowardojo will retire in May 2018. However, President Jokowi to this date has not yet submitted the names to the House of Representatives (DPR). President Jokowi is required to submit the names by the end of February.
