Recent Extreme Weather was After Effects of Philippines Climate

TEMPO.CO, Bandung - As it turns out, the extreme weather that has hit numerous Indonesian regions, especially in West Java, was an after effect of the climate in the Philippines, said the BMKG.
“The heavy rain happening throughout West Java is caused by the low pressures from East Philippines,” said the Head of Bandung’s Geophysics Station from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Tony Agus Wijaya.
This condition has caused winds that blow from Asia to move southwest and northwest which causes a convergence in the West Java region. That air mass cumulated to the medium-to-high intensity rain happening throughout the West Java region.
Based on satellite imageries, according to Tony, a cumulonimbus cloud has started to develop from Monday morning. The cloud extends from western regions such as Bogor to the eastern regions such as Ciamis and Kuningan.
The cloud is growing even bigger up in northern regions such as Indramayu. Cloud activities have weakened at noon and caused rain to fall from stratus clouds.
This extreme weather condition is predicted to keep on happening up to March. Tony said that the West Java Region is currently entering the usual rainy season. “Except for Bandung, parts of Bogor, Cianjur, Garut, and Tasikmalaya, that will experience unusual rain intensity,” he said.
