Ahok`s Upcoming Divorce Trial to be Held on Valentine`s Day

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The divorce trial for Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) and his wife Veronica Tan is scheduled on Wednesday, February 14, which is on the Valentine`s Day. 

North Jakarta District Court Spokesman Jootje Sampaleng said that the upcoming trial session is to verify the lawsuit that will be done by the plaintiff by reading-out evidence and files that may support the principle case.

“The trial will hear the content of the lawsuit, principle case, what their reasons are; it must be proven. The verification will be done with a letter and witness which will be proposed on the February 14's trial session,” said Jootje at the North Jakarta District Court on Wednesday, February 7.

During the second trial session at the North Jakarta District Court today, the panel of judges decided not to mediate and instead directly entered the core material of the case, considering that both Ahok and Veronica were not present in previous court sessions.

The decision was also taken since Veronica decided not to appoint an attorney to represent her and she instead stated that she will hand the verdict of the trial to the panel of judges. Veronica’s statement was written in a letter sent to Ahok’s sister who is also Ahok’s lawyer, Fifi Lety Indra.

Fifi read out the letter from Veronica to the panel of Judges twice on January 31, and on February 7, 2018.
