Soekarno-Hatta Landslide May Caused by Construction Failure

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Contractors Association (ICA) predicts that the landslide at the Soekarno-Hatta airport area that caused a concrete wall to collapse is due to construction failure.
The concrete wall covering one side of the tunnel at Jalan Perimeter collapsed on Monday, February 6.
This tunnel underpasses the Soekarno-Hatta airport railway, whose construction was handled by Waskita Karya. The access road for vehicles entering and exiting the airport was first used in November 2017.

ICA Secretary General Joseph Pangalila stated that the collapsed wall can be considered as a construction failure that needs to be reviewed upon, which is important to determine its exact cause.
“The investigation must be viewed from its design point of view and its construction. The Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry is authorized to impose sanctions. They can demand responsibility if the investigation finds that there is an element of negligence,” said Joseph on Tuesday, February 6.
However, Joseph argues that the construction failure due to its fast-paced working cannot be blamed for the landslide at the Soekarno-Hatta airport area since it had conformed to the existing standard operating procedure.
The PUPR Ministry Official Syarif Burhanuddin said that an expert team is currently conducting a thorough investigation.
