TEMPO.CO, Banda Aceh - Turkey-based company Hitay Holding A.S will start working on a geothermal project in Gunong Geurudong, North Aceh. Chairman Mehmet Emin Hitay delivered the commitment during a meeting with Aceh governor Irwandi Yusuf last Friday.
Mehmet asked the Aceh government to help take care of the licensing from the Energy and Mineral Resources. He also asked for help in terms of preliminary survey and exploration.

“We will start investing in this geothermal project once we have a permit from the Energy Ministry,” he said.
The meeting with the Aceh governor was a follow-up to a Memorandum of Understanding between Hitay and the provincial government, signed in Turkey some time ago.

"If the project works, it will help Aceh and more investors will come to Aceh,” Mehmet said.
The Gunong Geurudong area has an estimated geothermal potential of 220 MW. Hitay will work on the project in two stages, developing 110 MW of geothermal energy per stage.
