TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Marine and Fishery Ministry is working with a number of state banks to provide financing to fishermen. Banks will disburse credits to fishermen who are planning to replace their fishing gears with eco-friendly equipment.
"We are providing lending facilities from banks that they can use,” Marine and Fishery Minister Susi Pudjiastuti said on Saturday, Feb. 3.
Susi said that one of the banks is BRI. She also said that the ministry has looked over the verified and validated data of fishing boats that are not equipped with eco-friendly capturing devices on Feb. 2 in Tegal, West Java.
Fishermen’s boat are inventoried to ensure that all boats operating on indonesian waters are eco-friendly, as mandated by the ministry’s regulation no.2/2015 on the prohibition of using trawls and seine nets.
During her visit, Minister Susi also held a dialogue with local fishermen who had their boats registered. She asked fishermen to be honest when going to the sea to fish.
