TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A rare celestial phenomenon where the supermoon will coincide with a total lunar eclipse can be witnessed throughout Jakarta and other regions in Indonesia tonight.
In Jakarta, members of the public have gathered in several spots in the city such as the Planetarium, Ancol, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Fatahillah Museum, National Monument (Monas), Thousand Islands, and Setu Babakan.

According to psychologist A. Kasandravati Putranto, the enthusiasm shown by members of the public is a sign that people are generally more intelligent now. This is a considerable improvement from the non-evidence based periods when people believed in superstition.
According to Kasandravati, the development of information, technology, and science in Indonesia has helped society to study about the celestial phenomenon even deeper.

"With the advancement of science and the support of the current government, members of the public are enabled to be even smarter,” said Kasandra on January 31.
Other factors that can spark this level of enthusiasm are the tendency to follow a trend without having been informed about the phenomenon itself. Asked whether it significantly contributes to the enthusiasm shown today, Kasandra said, “It is possible. A percentage or portion of intelligent people might not be at the majority’s level yet.”
