TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Taufik Kurniawan expressed his expectation for Statistics Central Agency (BPS) to validate data on rice import that recently stirred up a controversy.
"BPS needs to validate the data and transparency is also needed to see what kind of rice was imported," Taufik Kurniawan said on Saturday(27/1).
He went on that if the data used is different, it has the potential to trigger unwanted events.
Taufik also does not want the policy to meet interests of certain parties.
"If that happens then it will cause us problems. They said they imported premium rice, but non premium rice was also imported, this will cause us harm. Let alone, rice price hits Rp 13 thousand, this will harm the public," he said.
Previously, government attempted to resolve the issue of discrepancy in data on rice by perfecting the data of the coverage of harvest and production that have not been integrated.
