Former New-Order-Era Minister, Daoed Joesoef, Passes Away

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture Daoed Joesoef passed away on Tuesday midnight, January 23. Daoed was treated in Medistra Hospital, South Jakarta.
The Medistra Hospital`s mortuary section confirmed the news. “It is true that he died and has been brought back to his house,” said a staff member of Medistra Hospital, on Wednesday morning, January 24.
According to the hospital, Daoed's body was sent to the funeral home on Jalan Bangka Dalam VII, South Jakarta on Wednesday, January 24, at around 02:30 pm. Daoed died on Tuesday, January 23, at 23:55 pm.
"For details about his illness, it must be confirmed to the public relations," the hospital staff said.
Daoed served as a minister of education in the era of President Soeharto in 1978-1983. As Minister of Education, Daoed issued a policy of Campus Life Normalization / Student Coordinating Board (NKK / BKK). The rule is considered to castrate the student's political activity.
In the academic field, Daoed Joesoef once left to France in the 60’s, to study. At that time, he began to engage in various UNESCO academic discussions and seminars. One of them is about grant funding for sites that are considered as world cultural heritage.
