TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Environment and Forestry (LHK) Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar stated that government is to strictly impose strong legal measure to orangutan poachers.
"We strongly support legal measure against orangutan poaching," she said in Bandung on Sunday (21/1).
LHK Minister made such a statement as a response to the discovery of headless orangutan floating on Kalahien Buntok River, South Barito, Central Kalimantan on Monday (15/1), and 17 bullets of air riffles were found on the body.
She stated that slaughtering an endangered species is unjustified in any way and she ensured that the perpetrator is to be revealed and punished in accordance with the Law by involving Central Kalimantan Police.
"The Police investigates the case. KLHK keeps monitoring the progress of the case. We demand legal process," she said.
She further revealed the fact that in the natural habitat of orangutan there are 224 palm companies resulting in inevitable conflicts between the endangered primate and humans.
