TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Spokesperson Sutopo Purwo Nugroho stated that forest fire during the 2018 Asian Games must be anticipated.

"Asian Games will be held in August and September of 2018. It is the peak of dry season and forest fire and land fire always strikes South Sumatra since the ground is covered by turf," Sutopo said in Jakarta on Saturday (20/1).

Sutopo claimed that it has to be anticipated long before the event especially preparing measures to prevent forest and land fires.

Measures to put down fires are still prepared. However, it is better to take preventive measures.

"If fires strike and the smoke covers the sports arena, it will humiliate us. Thereby, President Joko Widodo will definitely pay close attention to make Asian Games 2018 run well," he said.
