TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry is targeting to start the operation of Kuala Tanjung Port multipurpose terminal in March 2018. The terminal is located in Medan, North Sumatra.
The ministry's port transportation director Chandra Irawan said the first stage of development at Kuala Tanjung Port has reached a progress of 96 percent on the seaside, and 76.9 percent for the land side. The port will serve as a hub for Western Indonesia.

"We plan to hold the soft-launching ceremony in March 2018," Chandra said in a press release, Wednesday, January 17.
Chandra said the second phase of construction will be carried out by Pelindo I on a 500-hectare land. The overall construction site is 3,000 hectares in size.
The ministry hopes that the port's operation and the existence of industrial estates in Kuala Tanjung can help reduce logistics costs and boost the national logistics performance.
