Pancoran Flyover Opens; Congestion Expected to Drop 50 Percent

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government has officially launched the Pancoran Flyover from Cawang to Kuningan in South Jakarta. As of Monday morning, January 15, the flyover is open for all types of vehicles.

The Jakarta Police's director of traffic Adj. Comr. Budiyanto said the flyover's operation is expected to reduce congestion in the area by 50 percent.

"Since it opened this morning, traffic at Pancoran intersection is smoother than usual," Budiyanto said.

The Pancoran flyover has two lanes but currently only one is used. The other one is still closed due to the light rail (LRT) transit construction project and road hardening works.

The Jakarta Transportation Department chief Andri Yansyah said every hour 11,306 vehicles pass the Pancoran intersection. In the morning, the traffic volume from the east side averages at 2,914 vehicles per hour.

"With the operation of the Pancoran flyover, we expect to reduce congestion from east by up to 60 percent," Andri said.
