GBK Stadium Renovation Completed

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said that the renovation of Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Main Stadium has been 100 percent completed.

Basuki also stated that GBK stadium is ready to use for the 18th Asian Games in 2018.

"On January 14, 2018, President Jokowi is planned to officiate this stadium and watch a friendly match between Indonesia national team and Iceland national team," Basuki said on Friday, January 12.

The minister explained that the seats are altered from long seats into single seats and flip up. Each seat can take up to 250 kilograms of visitor’s weight. GBK now can take up 80 thousand people.

Basuki continued that GBK stadium uses LED lighting system with 3,500 lux of power or three times brighter than before. Such a system saves 50 percent of electricity.

He added that GBK stadium uses the best grass Zoysia matrella and it is equipped with automatic sprinklers and zero run-off.
