TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, welcomed the Ambassador of Germany to Indonesia, Michael Freiherr von Ungern-Sternberg, at the Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday for talks on the celebration of 25 years of relations between Jakarta and Berlin.
"We have discussed several topics, including the commemoration event, which will be highlighted with a Buddy Bear display and some booths," Uno stated at the Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday.
The Buddy Bear will symbolize the friendship, tolerance, and peace maintained for years between the two countries' capital cities, the deputy governor said.
As a mascot, the Buddy Bear will travel to some cities around the world, before heading back to Jakarta.
"Some 140 Buddy Bears will take a world tour and end the journey back in Jakarta. We hope there will be proper spaces for displaying hundreds of Buddy Bears. We have proposed the National Monument as one of the displaying zone," he remarked.
The vice governor remarked that the two-meter Buddy Bear is expected to strengthen the peaceful relations between Jakarta and Berlin, which has been maintained for 25 years.
Apart from the celebration event, Uno and von Ungern-Sternberg also discussed about hosting a meeting by bringing thousand Germany investors to Jakarta.
In mid-2018, the Investment Coordinating Agency (BKPM) has also planned to set up a partnership with the German investors.
"We are pleased to host the (investor) meeting. There are two places that we are offering, namely the Old City and the Seribu Islands," he revealed.
The Germany ambassador, according to Sandiaga, will be invited to visit the islands before the event.
"The exact venue will be determined by the Jakarta Tourism Office by March or April," the deputy governor remarked.
