TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri mentioned about post-truth and hoaxes numerous times in her speech at the 45th PDIP anniversary in Jakarta Convention Center today.
Megawati referred the people who use hoax news against their political opponents as cowards, ”Don’t fight like a coward, come fight like a man,” said Megawati Wednesday, January 10.
During her speech, Megawati could be heard raising the tone of her voice when she mentioned about post-truth and hoaxes. “There are many ways for people to use lies and spread hoaxes, and also hatred with the pretense of SARA (ethnicity, religion, and race) issues.”

Post-truth, according to the Cambridge Dictionary, is a term used to describe a situation in which people are more likely to accept an argument based on their emotions and beliefs, rather than based on facts. Megawati argued that the Indonesian society is currently facing this phenomenon.
Megawati also ordered PDIP members to practice politics that is based on the nation’s ideology, the Pancasila. “Politics is not the path to merely reach wealth and power, politics is a devotion,” she said.
