TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Most of us might be attempting to apply a healthy lifestyle such as doing a routine exercise, monitoring our diets, or following general health instructions.

1. Consuming vitamins every day

Three studies in 2013 did not find proof between consuming vitamins on a daily basis and protecting our body from chronic illnesses such as cancer and heart diseases.
In 2017, the United States Food and Drugs Administration underlined the potential dangers of routinely consuming supplements.

2. Sitting for a long period of time

A profession that forces you to sit on a chair for hours has been proven to pose health risks such as diabetes and cardiac diseases. A research in 2015 showed that women who sit more than six hours a day are exposed to the risks of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and multiple myeloma compared to women that sit less than 3 hours a day.

3. Killing time with smartphones

A study in 2016 showed that adults that spend more time on their smartphones before going to bed need more time to fall asleep, which affects the quality of their sleep. One of the reasons is the blue lighting produced by the phone’s screen can reduce the ability of the brain to produce melatonin.

4. Spending too much time on social media

Even though social media was designed to connect people, but the overuse of it can badly affect its users. A study shows that an adult that spends more than 2 hours a day on social media such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter will actually feel socially isolated in the real world.

5. Wearing skinny jeans

An article in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry described a case where a woman experienced damages to her nerves related to her habit of wearing skinny jeans. She was hospitalized and treated for compartment syndrome, which is when the blood supply to the leg muscles are significantly reduced because of an overly tight jeans.
