TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Agriculture and Spatial Planning Sofyan Djalil stated that he has seen locations that potentially fit to be the new capital, especially from the land suitability.
When asked about the location, Sofyan who is also the Head of National Land Agency (BPN) was reluctant to talk in more detail. “Later”, briefly he said at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Jakarta, Thursday, January 4. However, Sofyan mentioned the factor which became the consideration in determining the location of the new capital. The government is concerned with topographic sides that are not swamps, flood risk, and the feasibility of a city.
BPN is looking for new capital locations outside Java but not all the land matches the criteria. "For example, if it is raining, it is flooding, the new capital should not be like that," he said.
The National Development Planning Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro previously stated that he has submitted a study about the relocation of the capital city to President Joko Widodo. The early stage study focuses on choosing the cone-shaped capital of the three options: Central Kalimantan, West Kalimantan and East Kalimantan. The three were selected based on the indicators of land area, disaster dimension, and infrastructure availability.
Bambang estimates that the government needs more than Rp1 trillion for the relocation of new capital. The government plans to use public and private partnership schemes (KPBU) to meet the financing.
