Court Rejects Setya Novanto's Objection; Hearing Set for Jan. 11

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Court judge has rejected Setya Novanto's objection over his indictment. On Thursday, January 4, the chief judge, Yanto, ordered the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPU) prosecutors to continue with Setya's trial.
According to the judge, the indictment materials against Setya have met the formal and material requirements, and thus can be accepted as the basis of Setya's investigation and trial.

The judges disagreed with the defendant's lawyer argument that the indictment was "unclear and incomplete".
In addition, the judge requested that the prosecutors' suspend the cost of the case until the final verdict is decided.

With the rejection of his objection, Setya Novanto's trial will continue. The next hearing is scheduled for Thursday, January 11. After that, there will be two hearings per week on Mondays and Thursdays.
Setya's initial hearing as a suspect was held on December 13, last year. Prosecutors indicted him of gaining personal gains by receiving US$7.3 million kickbacks from the e-KTP procurement project.
