TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Central Java gubernatorial nominee Sudirman Said from the coalition of Gerindra, PKS and PAN is not concerned with the nomination of former National Armed Forces (TNI) chief Gatot Nurmantyo by the PPP. “The more candidates, the merrier,” Sudirman said yesterday in South Jakarta.
According to Sudirman, such a situation would benefit Central Java residents. “It would be better because the choices are good.”
Sudirman has welcomed possible third and fourth coalitions in Central Java gubernatorial election. There are currently two competitors in the election: the coalition of Gerindra, the National Mandate Party (PAN) and Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) that are competing against the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP). The former nominates Sudirman Said, whereas the latter endorses incumbent Ganjar Pranowo.
PPP Solo City earlier nominated Gatot as Central Java gubernatorial candidate because he was born in Tegal, making him familiar with the people of the province.
PPP holds eight seats at the Central Java Representatives Council (DPRD), meaning that it needs to coalesce with other party to nominate Gatot Nurmantyo.
