TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Energy expert Mamit Setiawan appraised that the government’s decision to not change the price of subsidized fuel (BBM) will exert positive impact.
"That the government announced no change of fuel price in the first period of January to March 31th, 2018 is a positive sign in the end of 2017," he said in Jakarta on Saturday (30/12).
The CEO of Energy Watch also said that it will maintain purchasing power.
"This policy can prevent inflation since an increase of Rp100 per liter will contribute to 0.12-0.15 percent of inflation," he explained.
Stable fuel price, he continued, automatically maintain the people’s purchasing power in terms of consumption. In addition, transport cost of food and crops which are on the supply side will not change.
Mamit also appreciated a statement from the director of state-owned energy firm PT Pertamina Elia Massa Manik responding the government’s policy by saying that even though world oil price increases, Pertamina will still maintain $1.99 billon of profit.
