Jakarta Police to Secure Disturbing Convoys during New Year`s Eve

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metro Police will take actions against vehicle convoys on New Year`s Eve celebrations if they are considered a public disorder.
"If they disturb the public, the police will not hesitate to take action," Polda Metro Jaya Chief Insp. Gen. Idham Azis said in Jakarta, Wednesday, December 27.

According to Idham, the police are anticipating for people who often hold vehicle convoys on the eve of the New Year. The police, he said, will escort if the convoys run in an orderly fashion.
The police will stand by at a number of crowded venues such as Ancol, Monas, shopping centers, and other locations. Security forces will also be placed in crime-prone locations.
"We will also monitor homes that are left empty by their owners," he added.

Idham Azis called on the public to celebrate the turn of the year safely, and refrain from doing dangerous activities such as playing with fireworks excessively.
The police will also be conducting raids against fireworks for the past week.
