TEMPO.CO, Bekasi - Beef stewed in coconut milk known as rendang and as one of the typical dishes of West Sumatra Province will be a flagship commodity for exports. This is due to a high interest of overseas culinary lovers for the cuisine, especially in Europe.
"This idea came up from a number of partners overseas who wanted rendang, but it is difficult to get," West Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno said in Padang on Friday, Dec. 22.
He explained that this measure is taken as a response to the province’s economic growth reaching 5.1-5.5 percent in which it goes strong after a low rate of growth since 2013.
Irwan revealed that provincial administration (Pemprov) is currently conducting a culinary study to make rending last up to 1.5 years. This is needed in order to reach word market.
